Neuroscientific Emotional Intelligent Assessment ™

Designed to assess personal and interpersonal mastery, this assessment measures four key competencies: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management

What is Neuroscientific Emotional Intelligence?

Neuroscientific Emotional Intelligence (N.E.I) is the neurological and physiological understanding of managing and expressing one’s emotions. NEI handles interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically. It provides a biological basis for emotional intelligence, showing how certain brain structures and processes are involved in recognising, regulating, and understanding emotions. While emotional intelligence involves skills and behaviours, neuroscience underpins the mechanisms behind these capabilities. In the process it emphasises how neurology impacts our emotional experiences and social interactions. Understanding these connections, can help us refine strategies for enhancing emotional intelligence and improving our overall emotional well-being.

We use two specific competencies of Daniel Goleman’s Emotional Intelligence conceptual framework: personal mastery (self) and interpersonal mastery (others). Individuals who demonstrate high levels of NEI, are better at understanding themselves and others. They have drive, energy and optimism to make decisions confidently, express their views, and manage their emotions. Furthermore, they are more capable of being sensitive to interpersonal and organisational dynamics and relate to others with diplomacy and tact.

  • Reliability of scale  = Cronbach Alpha: emotional self-awareness (0.83), Emotional self-control (0.91), Achievement orientation (0.86), adaptability (0.85), positivity (0.88), empathy (0.86), organisational awareness (0.86), influence (0.84), teamwork (0.89), coach and mentor (0.92), conflict management (0.79), inspirational leadership (0.89).
  • Validity of scale = high;

**Cronbach’s alpha (α) is a statistic used to measure the internal consistency or reliability of a scale; how closely related a set of items are as a group. Validity is a statistic used to measure how well a test or assessment actually measures what it claims to measure. Unlike reliability (which is about consistency), validity is about accuracy and meaningfulness.

Self-Awareness

Involving several networks and brain areas, self-awareness incudes being aware of one’s thoughts, emotions, behaviours, within the context of own environment. The insula, temporal prefrontal-cortex junction (TPJ), and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) play an important role in Neuroscientific self-awareness.

Self-Management

This is the ability to regulate your emotions, thoughts, and behaviours in various situations to achieve goals and maintain well-being. The prefrontal cortex (PFC), ventromedial PFC (vmPFC) and amygdala are the most important areas in the brain related to self-management.

Social Awareness

The ability to understand and empathise with others concerning their feelings, needs, and perspectives is being socially aware. The pathways implicated in vmPFC and neurotransmitters like dopamine and oxytocin are mostly associated with social awareness.

Relationship Management

The ability to build, maintain, and navigate interpersonal relationships in ways that are constructive and  supportive, are referred to as relationship management. Cognitive reappraisal, and avoid- approach states help to understand relationship management neuroscientifically.

Great Benefits

The NEI assessment highlights areas of strength and further development. It identifies areas that require balance in emotional responses through rational thought. Being made aware of emotion regulation strategies, the brain’s "executive control centre" and the limbic system. This assessment emphasises how you are performing in the following areas:

  • Emotional self-awareness
  • Accurate self-assessment
  • Self-confidence
  • Emotional self-control
  • Transparency and initiative
  • Achievement and optimism
  • Empathy
  • Organisational awareness
  • Service orientation
  • Developing others
  • Inspirational leadership
  • Conflict management and change catalyst
  • Teamwork and collaboration
  • Influence
